omgosh! can you believe it's Thursday already? Seems like yesterday was Easter Sunday. Oh how the time flies. Saying all that..I had a wonderful Easter and some how let the week fly by but I did manage to throw together a couple groupies for you. They should make creating a LO super fast and if you pick up Teri's new kit Tinkerboy you can have the matching elements and paper.

Savory Sunday Recipe

Hey all, it's Tabby here and I'm bringing you the first Savory Sunday Recipe post, though today is Monday, lol. We got so busy yesterday celebrating Easter and spending time with the family that I forgot to post.

Today I'm giving you one of my favorite bread recipes that was given to me by a neighbor. Beer Bread. Now I am not a beer drinker at all so this sounded odd to me but once I tried it, it's very yummy. You can even make a second loaf to freeze for later!

Beer Bread

Ingredients

1 (12 fluid ounce) can or bottle beer
3 cups self-rising flour
3 tablespoons white sugar

Directions

In a large bowl, mix together the sugar and flour. Add beer and continue to mix, first using a wooden spoon, then your hands. Batter will be sticky. Pour into a 9 x 5 inch greased loaf pan.
Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees ) for 50 for 60 minutes. The top will be crunchy, and the insides will be soft. Serve topped with butter or cheese spread.

Pretty Scrappy Statement

I just feel compelled to at least address the fact that I am no longer selling at Pretty Scrappy. In fact, no one is. The store has been closed. Due to circumstances unknown to me, there were some unethical things going on there and as soon as I was made aware of them, I removed my things immediately. I also let the fellow designers that I knew, aware of the situation and within an hour the store had closed down. If any of you have purchased things from me and did not get your things, please contact me with a copy of your receipt and I will take care of it. I have worked so hard to build a business and to have some people, for reasons that I can not even comprehend, jeopardize my integrity by being associated with them is deplorable to say the least. So I just wanted to let you, my customers know, and to reassure you that I was in no way, involved nor aware of the things going on in the management of Pretty Scrappy. And that apart from the owner, Julie Frank aka Share Your Moments and store manager, Robyn Grief aka ScrapperGirl Designs the designers there were professional, as far as I am aware of. So many were hurt and left without any place to sell there designs and my heart breaks for them. I do not usually go public with issues regarding other businesses, but this merited at least a comment from me. In the mean time, I will continue to sell at GingerScraps where I am totally confidant that Ginger, is a top notch owner. :)T

Have I Been Busy or What?

Ok, so I know I am not alone in my desire to lose some weight. I needed some extra motivation, so I joined a challenge and it led to me making this kit, I'm Losing It! Well, we all want to track our progress so we can pat ourselves on the back when we do good, or get us back on track if we fall off, right? So I have made that easy too! I made a little printable journal set to do just that. And if you want to really stay motivated, I have made a Blog Wear set, so that you will not only be reminded each time you visit your blog, but you can let others know, " Hey I'm Losing It!"

Here are 2 layouts I made as I begin this journey.

And I didn’t stop there! I made a darling Blog Wear set out of my kit, Freshly Picked Fall. You may have noticed my new look? Well you can have it too! And if you like to journal or keep a daily planner, I have that covered for you also.

So see, I wasn't kidding when I said I had been busy! Oh, and today in Sunday School, my hubby was teaching on the garments that the priests wore when they would enter the Holy of Holy’s. They were to be fully covered in specific detailed garments. This was a picture or a fore-shadowing of what we as Christians are to do. We, too are to be fully covered in a specific way when we come into God’s presence. We are to be fully covered (clothed) in Christ! I just loved that analogy. How we can look to things in the old testament, and see those things pointing to the coming Messiah. Well he came, as a baby, not as a king and I don’t need to remind you we, we will soon be celebrating his birth. His name is Jesus! Hope you had a blessed weekend! I know I did! Heather, one of my CT gals told me she saw a bumper sticker that said “Save Your Ta Ta’s” How funny is that? So of course it reminded me that I AM A SURVIVOR! I want to encourage all my blog readers to do this……….

Seriously, I found my cancer with my yearly mammogram so what ever it takes to keep us alive.. lets do it! Early detection is the key! Which reminds me of another story…

When we were in Canada, we were going to Old Town Quebec and saw all these pink headed people walking with police escorts.. literally 1000’s of people… so I snapped a few photos, and finally rolled my window down and asked if anyone spoke English and a lady said she did. I asked if they were marching for breast cancer awareness and she said yes… I hollered.. “ I am a 15 year survivor!” out the window… they all gave me a good Canadian Whoot! and next thing I knew that lady was tapping on my window with a Canadian Breast Cancer T-Shirt! Wasn't that nice? She is the one in the foreground in this first photo.

Opps! She Did It Again!

You remember a few weeks ago I showed you a darling kit, Farm Fresh by Late Night Scraps? Well Kelly has done it again! This time with a “companion” kit, Happy Haunting by Late Night Scraps. She is the featured designer at Ahhh Scrap and Kelly has made this a sweet deal by offering a coupon if you purchase the bundle! How cool is that?

Here are some layouts that I made with Happy Haunting! I love that you can use this for just your basic fall photos but what a darling kit for all your Halloween pictures and parties. The fall one was taken when we were in New Hampshire in a quaint little town, where the shop owners all had dressed up props in cute fall themes. The “pumpkin gal” was getting a lot of attention! LOL Then I saw the "” Mother Nature” and and I immediately thought that they would make a great layout proving, “Its not nice to fool Mother Nature”.

This second one was from Nate last year, and he was so excited to go trick or treating. They had a trailer all decked out with hay and chairs and several of his little friends, mommies all riding on the trailer, dads riding shotgun in the truck, but at the very first house they went to, a man was dressed up like the grim reaper and stood perfectly still till Nate and his friends got close and then moved and scared them all! That was it! Back to the house they all went and just finished up the night with friends and family! What kind of person scares a bunch of 4 and 5 year olds? Oh well… shall see how it goes this year!

Paying it Forward!

A few days ago I got a call from someone who said they “thought they were at my house”. I was like ok?…. anyway I asked who it was and he said it was the local florist. To my surprise I had a beautiful bouquet of pink roses from my wonder hubby and my daughter. I know it was my daughter who negotiated the deal.. LOL that's why daughters rock! Anyway, she asked me to take a picture of them to show her. I had just done that today when I got an instant message from her ( she is 20 and away at college) saying she was missing home today! I am missing her too. Again she asked if I had taken the pictures of the flowers so, I decided I would bless her with this blog post! I am sending her this big bouquet of flowers just because I love her! She has been a blessing to me and my hubby and yes, even her brothers. But I just want her to know how special she is to me and how much I value her not only as my daughter, but as a person. She is not only beautiful on the outside, but on the inside as well. She has been one of God’s most precious blessings to me! Love you Maggi and here is your very own bouquet of roses! Get you some floral spray and smell them! Thanks for thinking of me, it made my day and I hope this makes yours!

Whew! Its been a wild few days for me. I am finally getting around a little better since pulling a muscle in my stomach. Still in some pain but nothing like it was when it happened. So, I have been on my computer a little more lately. You may remember one of my CT gals, Sarah Taylor aka threeunderfour and she made this darling little QP for you with my new kit, 2 cute 2 spook. I’m Back! Here’s the Reason Why!!!

I saw these darling little Goblin’s and, well one thing led to another and before I knew it I was making a kit! So, I guess I’m back! I am only selling at Pretty Scrappy but I hope you will jog over and take a closer look at my new kit, 2 Cute 2 Spook by Teri Mayo. I made a little felt paper pack to go along with this and am working on making some more little Goblin’s to use as an add on or for any of your Halloween photos! They are so cute and whimsical! I had a rough night last night and ended up in the ER! I apparently have torn a muscle in my lower stomach and have some internal bleeding that my body will absorb, so Praise the Lord! I was in excruciating pain, so I am thankful that ( at 3:30 am ) they were finally able to tell exactly what I had done after doing umpteen tests, but the one that showed the tear was a CAT scan. Glad to be home and am sore and have a few weeks of recovery till I am back to 100% but I feel so blessed to be able to know what it is. So, without further ado… here is 2 Cute 2 Spook!

Happy Harvest QP Freebie! Limited Time Offer

Tracie of Blue Maige Designs has a darling new kit out called “Happy Harvest” I love the cardstock add on papers she made for this kit too! You can get them individually or in the bundle which I would suggest. The alpha is so cute! See for yourself. And the colors are spot on for the fall season!

And this adorable alpha is a must have too! Love the painted chipboard. Its slightly sanded to give that grungy look.

I guess I love this kit because of the Harvest theme. I am so reminded of how the Lord tells us that the fields are ripe for harvest but the labors are few. How true this is today as we look at this world and their empty lives trying to find happiness in everyplace but the one true place that we can find it. And that is with a relationship with the Lord. Lets be about His business in telling others about Him and “His Harvest”. Here is a little QP that I made for my friend Melanie, for her birthday today. This was on our trip to Maine. Well here we are once again in Maine and the leaves are beautiful. I will do my best to get a picture or two posted here to show you! But take my word for it, the colors are magnificent! What an awesome artist our Lord is! His handiwork is beautiful. We plan to visit the coastline tomorrow or the next day, so be looking for some coastal photos soon! My Latest Litte Project... A Special Photobook!

Here is my latest project. It is a photobook that I have made for my Daughter-in-law, Abbie. I loved doing it of my favorite granddaughter! Well yes, she is my only granddaughter... I have a grandson, but she is still my favorite granddaughter, at least till I have more! She is a cutie pie and has the best mommy and daddy a girl could want and her big brother is crazy about her too! Hope you enjoy! :)T

Making a Journal Book Cover

Ok so, in order to get my priorities straight, I need to make sure I take pay attention at Church so, I made me a journal notebook with my priorities overlay and wanted to share how I did it with you guys… So here is the photo of the notebook that I used and the finished project. Maybe you can get some inspiration from this idea.

Here is the journal I made…

And here is what the composition notebook looks like before and after! I simply printed the front cover 9.75 x 6.75 and then I used modge podge to adhere it to the notebook. I then filed the edges to make them match after it had completely dried. I also printed a back cover to match the front. Just used the black and white paper. Total time to make this project was about 30 min. from start to finish! So what are you waiting for? His, Teri

Getting My Priorities Straight…..

Well most of you know that I am in the process of making some major changes in my designing. While I will no longer be selling my designs, I still plan on creating and doing some hopefully cool things. But I had sweet email from a sister in Christ who had used an Overlay that I had made over a year ago. She sent me these darling pictures and I wanted to share them with you! But now, it would just be cruel to show you these with out a little somethin somethin for you too, right? So scroll down and keep your eyes open for a little RAK! Here are Kristens darling photos she made and framed and gave to both grandparents! Hint, Hint…. if you want to make some brownie points…

Love the frame and the contrast of the black and white she used in the first picture.

In this one she went with a more traditional look and frame. I just wanted to show you both ways and to show you how you can use them differently.

I love the Lords timing, as I am doing my best to get my priorities straight, that Kristen would just “happen to email me these pictures!” Isn’t God good? I know many of you are very surprised and am wondering why? Well i do have my reasons but one thing I can share is this. I really feel led to get back to the basics of why I began to do this to start with, and that was to create, using the gifts and talents that the Lord has given me, and to share that with others here on my blog. Once I began to create, I lost sight of that calling. So, I will not be leaving designing altogether. In fact both stores have agreed and even encouraged me to stick around and help with collabs, and blog trains and any other place I can stick my foot into! So you will still see me around, I will just be doing things a little differently. So, don’t be sad for me. I am really looking forward to seeing how God is going to continue to bless me and hopefully use me to bless others… So this is a win win for us all!

Now about the duos, that Stacey and I have done. She left designing last month, so our duo’s will also be retiring at the end of this month. But we want to give you an opportunity to grab them for the next 31 days at incredible savings! We are having a Bye Bye Birdie Sale.

The Dreaded Drop-Shadows....

Ok this week we are going to address what to me is the most common mistake I see made in layouts, and that is Drop Shadows. I want to use DS for Drop Shadows for the sake of ease from this point on. As a designer, we use DS to make our elements look more realistic and also to add dimension to our designs. I use CS3 so I will do my tutorial based on what I use and I am hoping that you can adjust as needed for the programs you use. For those of you that use elements, I will address how to do this at the end of this little lesson. So, lets get started. To begin with, as you have seen in previous lessons, that DS are a personal preference, but there are some basic rules of thumb to follow.

1. For the most part, everything on your layout should have a DS. (the exception would be journaling or text, you do not need to add a DS to these)

2. I think Titles can and almost always should have a DS, but this is my personal preference, and you can use your creative license here.

3. All papers, excluding backgrounds need a DS.

4. All elements need to have a drop shadow. The exception here would be something like netting, or sometimes splatters or things that would be sprinkled on paper.

5. When adding DS to your layouts, the easiest way is to make a DS on one layer and copy that "FX" or style and then you can paste it to all of your layers at one time or as you go along.

6. Depending on the size of your layout, you need to adjust not only the size and spread of the DS but the opacity also. Another trick is to make your DS color a darker color of the element or the paper. So if you are using a dark blue paper you can make your DS a dark blue/black. If you are making a brag book album you need to make it much smaller and if you are doing something smaller.. make your DS even smaller. It should not be hovering over the paper with a huge DS underneath it.

Now, a few more things before we get into this weeks "Hands On" lesson. If any of you ladies are on CT teams.. and help with QP's, there are a few more things that you need to know. Did you know that, as designers, we can not have any DS on elements or openings that are in the transparent space of our layouts? So, this creates a little more thinking here and if you are not interested in this part, feel free to skip to the place where I tell you what we are going to actually do for this week, but if you are interested in expanding your skills as a CT hang with me here for a little longer. Your designer will love you for learning this. If you are making QP's for an album, any area that is in the transparent part of the layout can not have any DS. So this means if you have bows, or frames that hang over into that area, NO DROP SHADOWS ALLOWED! So, how do we do this? I’m glad you asked and there are several ways..In CS3, I get on my layer in the layers pallet and after creating my DS, I put my curser on the DS in the layer pallet and do a right click and create new layer. This makes your DS on a layer of its own. Now, you can select the open area on the layer that doesn't have the DS and select the DS layer and delete what is showing in the open area.. Do you want to see if you have a DS on an area of your QP’s that is in the transparent area of your layout? This is how I QC (Quality Control) check for them. Make 2 layers under your QP layer. Fill one with green and the other with black. And on your QP layer put a red stroke at 3 px’ls around your QP. (this also works for stray pixels on elements too) You will be able to see if you have a wide red area where the thin red stroke should be. You can delete it while it is highlighted at this point if you want. BUT it is so much easier to just remove it while you are making your layout.

So now that we know what and where to place our DS, I want to teach you a trick of the trade. And that is how to make realistic drop shadows on bows or how to make paper look like it is lifting on a corner. Are you ready to play? I hope so. Stacey Crossley was gracious enough to let me share this tutorial she had written with all of you. So, a huge thank you to my friend and a fantastic designer, Stacey.

Stacey Crossley’s Realistic Drop-Shadow Tutorial

If you’d like to give your layouts dimension and depth, this technique is a great way to start. Did you know you can put your drop shadows onto their own layer and manipulate them before merging them back? It makes all the difference if you’re wanting to portray space between the background and your picture/element. Take a look at this before photo…the whirly looks okay on the background, there’s a nice little drop shadow behind it:

However, if you’re wanting the whirly to look like it’s got movement, that it doesn’t just lay flat on the background, use the warped shadow method (note how the edges look just a little lifted off the background):

This technique is great not only for layouts, but designers use this in their previews to give them life. The steps are as follows:

Once you have your element/photo on the layer, go ahead and create the shadow as you would any other time. Right click the drop shadow in your layer <create new layer. A dialogue box will appear, go ahead and click okay. In your layers, highlight the now separated drop shadow, we’ll be working with that now.

Choose Edit<Transform<Warp

You should now see warp mesh over your element now (see illustration)

From this point, start moving the little circles on the mesh to manipulate the shadow. You decide where you want the shadows, play with it, see what looks good–I’ve found keeping the shadow prominent on one or two sides is realistic. I also go to the shadow layer and change the opacity from 75-90 percent, depending on what I’m trying to achieve. Once you have your shadow where you want it, we need to merge them back together again. Control<click to highlight both layers, then Control<E to merge them together.

That’s all there is to it!

Now for those of you who use PSE you can mimic this to a point by following these steps:

1. Duplicate the layer you want to put your DS on. To do this, right-click on the layer and choose "Duplicate Layer." Move the Layer Copy below the original layer.

2. Right-click on the Layer 1 copy thumbnail and choose "Select Layer Transparency." This will put "marching ants" around your layer. What we want to do is "fill" this layer with a color that is the same shade of our background but darker, or a dark grey. Go to Edit> Fill Selection.

3. A new dialog box will appear. Here, you want to select "Use Color" from the drop down menu, and using the mouse, move the cursor over the background until the Eyedropper Tool appears. Select the background color. Then go to the Color Picker and directly below the circle selector on the Color Picker, select a darker Shade than the background color. This is trial and error. Choose a color that would make a realistic shadow color. You don't want it too bright, but more on the dull side.

Click "OK." Click Select> Deselect to lose the marching ants.

Look at your layers menu and you will see that your layer copy is now filled with the color you just selected. This is your new shadow!

4. Finally, we want to "blur" it up just a bit, so the shadow isn't so harsh. With the layer still active, go to Filter> Blur> Gaussian Blur. Choose a radius of about 7.8 to 8.8 pixels. Select "OK."

5. Now you can go to the Image > Transform > Distort. Play around with where you want to drag it from to make it look like the photo I used as an example, and you are good to go!

So now for this weeks lesson:

I want you to make a layout and pay close attention to your use of drop shadows. You can pick any kit and any layout you want, but I want you to try to use this method of warping the shadow on a few things to give it that added umph! If it is not possible to put your DS on its own layer and warp it just make a layout and do your best to make your drop shadows realistic looking. I will be happy to give CC to anyone who asks and I hope you will find this weeks lesson something you can use.

My newest kit is out in the stores today! "Weekend Getaway" was inspired by the mini-trips we all love to take or those of us just wanting to get away for the weekend. "Weekend Getaway" is perfect to scrap those memories of a relaxing vacation or just a simple day trip. Not a tradition vacation kit, but one that is perfect for road trips, hiking up hills or soaring from coast to coast. The color combination in this kit also lends itself perfectly to be used for those masculine photos and great for the little explorer in all of us! Indiana Jones goes vintage! This kit is packed to the brim and ready to go.

Here are some detailed images for you to see it up close. I made this kit to scrap some photos that I took on a recent trip to Big Bend, but it would be perfect for Father's Day, or any little boy layouts too!

I love the tree and the rustic fence.. there are alot of unique elements in this jam packed kit.

The twill ribbon is so adorable and I didnt leave out the photographer in the crowd. Can you find the camera?

Altoid Tin Hybrid Project with "Are We There Yet?"

I had to show off my latest "sweet" Hybrid Project from my kit "Are We There Yet? ... It was so easy to make and I love the fact that I could make it from start to finish in one afternoon! It will not be my last one to make.. Special thanks to my creative team member Sarah Taylor for making such a cute layouts for this darling album.
Here are the printed sheets before I cut them:

This is how I laid them out after cutting them and rounding the corners and punching the proper holes in each layout. I used my crop-a-dile and it was super fast because I could punch holes in about 4 layouts at one time and I used the provided template to make sure the placement of the holes was correct.

After putting them altogeter using little craft jumprings I added a little string to the top one to use to unfold out of the tin.

This is how it looks when you open the lid:

And now the finished project just waiting for someone to reach for it, and to find such a sweet surprise inside!

Can you "Siggy Size" that please?

Well as if I don't have enough irons in the fire, I am going to be converting a few of my kits to "Siggy Size" or what's commonly called Tagger Size. Why you ask? Well some people like to make these darling little tiny pictures to add to their emails as a "signature" or in forums. These kits are very small in size and are not suitable for printing because they are 72 dpi. So if you want to try your hand at "Siggy's" check out these kits! I am going to show you a darling one made with my "So Chic" kit.

I have been super busy as you may have noticed! Not only creating some fabulous scrap booking kits, but also gathering a little flock of my own ct's. I am super happy to welcome some new team members to my already fantastic CT Team. I have added there names and links to my side bar, so please take a min to check them out! You will be inspired by there layouts for sure! So welcome help me welcome Angel, Kayre, Brittney, Tabby, Carrie and Aaron to my team! I also have a couple of new kits I want to show you! Here is my latest one...called Bee Attitudes. It is a super cute, fun filled garden and outdoor themed kit.

This is my second CT call and I am so excited about the girls I have on my team right now its not even funny! The reason I am looking to add a couple more is because I seem to be producing kits one right after the other and I don't want to have to overwhelm any of them with making layouts or helping me with albums to use for add-on's. If you want to get my kits for free, I need you to email me a link to your blog, a gallery that best reflects your style, and tell me a little about you and why I should pick you. I will leave this call open thru March 10, 2009 and you will hear back from me if you are chosen. I will send you another email with a more detailed list of rules and responsibilities. You must be willing to make at least 2 layouts using one of my kits and post them in my my Designer Galleries at Pretty Scrappy, Scrapable and DigitalArts-Cafe. Also, for most of my kits, I make an add-on album of some sort, either a QP album, Bracket album, or Brag Book album. I will need your help in creating these also. I try to give at least 2 weeks for you to create any album pages. If you do help in the albums, then you will receive that album and all its pages upon completion. As far as your layouts, You can post them on your blog and send me the layouts so that I can post them on my blog if you want. This is the Day That the Lord has Made!

Morning Glories! I am not usually up so early in the am! I have been neglecting my blogging buddies and for that I am sorry. I have become so busy with designing that it has kinda over taken me! I love it, but I have to take time for other things too. We are in a serious drought here where we live, in south Texas and because my husband is a farmer... we need rain. Would you join me in prayer for rain for our area? We want to be smack dab in the center of Gods will and we know that He knows our needs, but His word says "We have not because we ask not, and when we ask, we ask amiss." What are you needing? Have you prayed about it and asked the Lord? You know he cares about every aspect of you life, so dont be shy in asking Him. He knows anyway! Well I just wanted to give you gals a shout. Oh and there are some great changes in my Digiscrap Shops! I have joined Scrapable and regretably, I resigned from Digital Paper Hearts. I wish Janice Brasil all the best at Digital Paper Hearts. God made the two great lights, the greater light to govern the day, and the lesser light to govern the night; He made the stars also. Gen. 1:16 I love this kit by Scrapplies called Rocket Commander! Tiffany outdid her self with this one. It is jammed packed with all kinds of aliens and spaceships,even my 4 year old grandson wanted to look at it and asked me to scrap a layout with this kit! Now, that's got to be the youngest advertiser for this kit. You can get the kit at DigiShopScrap and check out her blog.. for some some freebies of these layouts! I sent her the QP's and I think she is gonna put them up on her blog in the next few days so be sure to check over at her blog to grab them! I loved these pictures of Nate that I took of him in his Power Ranger outfit. They were perfect for this kit. And I want Nate to know that he can truly follow his dreams and reach for the stars.

I kind of used some creativity here to incorporate how "scary" he was and I thought of this scripture. I think it was perfect! Now remember to go to Scrapplies and look for the QP's if you are interested!
